Akita Rescue in New Mexico

Many of the the Land of Enchantment Akita Club members are involoved in Akita Rescue in New Mexico. Chrisan and Jim Smith have further worked with rescues in surrounding states. Please see the New Mexico Akita Rescue Group (NMARG) web site.

A Rescue Interest List is maintained to inform those interested in a Rescue Akita of dogs that become available. If you are interested in an Akita Rescue, please contact the NMARG and have your name put on the list for future contact. Please note:

bullet A Rescue Akita is neutered or spayed before placement.
bullet A secure yard is a necessity for a Rescue Akita.
bullet If you have other animals, it might be hard to find a Rescue Akita that can live with your animal family—the Akita by nature is dominant and aggressive with other animals. Being a large, tough dog there is a chance of the other pet being injured or killed, if the Akita is animal aggressive.
bullet If you have young children, we would not want to risk placing an ADULT Rescue Akita in your family unless we were certain of the Akita's disposition and background.  Children can be very hard on animals and many Akitas do not know how to deal with children. Since we do not usually know the history of the Akita, we don’t want to risk your child being bitten.

Most of the Akitas that are rescued are Akitas over one year of age. Occasionally we rescue young Akitas between five and twelve months of age. Rarely do Akita puppies (under five months of age) come into rescue, but it has happened.

Contact Chrisan Smith 505-294-6215, 505-400-9870 or akita2s@comcast.net for additional information about other available Akitas, as Akitas are given to Rescue for placement at any time and the NMARG site may not always be current or up-to-date.
